Soreness is back

Taking the weekend off allowed the soreness to go away. At least it did by Sunday, but it is back with a vengeance. I did my 2-a-day workout yesterday and I am already feeling it. :) I did my DVD last night and lifted weights this AM. I'm sure in my posting tomorrow I will be even more sore. But what they hey, such is life and apart of leading a healthy and fit lifestyle.

Weekend break

I took the weekend off from working out. I really needed it! I was extremely sore on Saturday and I could barely move to get out of bed. I couldn't get it together on Sunday either, but I was back in the gym this AM. This morning I did chest and biceps. I'll do my DVD tonight and get back into my two-a-days routine this week.

Two-a-days

I've been doing two-a-day workouts and boy am I feeling it. I do weights in the AM and The Biggest Loser DVD in the evening. I am sore all over!

This morning I did exclusively legs. I know that come Saturday, it will be difficult to stand and sit-down. I say that because of the workout I did this AM and knowing I'm going to do that DVD tonight. Oh yeah, it will not be pretty on Saturday. But, I must forge ahead!

Back workout

I worked my lateral muscles and lower back this AM. I am sore all over the place due to the Biggest Loser DVD and my chest and biceps workout Monday morning. I'm sure I will be even more sore tomorrow.

Evening workout

I didn't workout this AM. I will do The Biggest Loser DVD tonight. I find that although it is a mere 25 minute workout, it is a good workout! I am sweating, tired, and fighting to get through it! If I continue to do that in the evening along with the gym in the AM, I'll be able to drop these last 10 pounds that I want to lose. Plus, it will help me when I begin training for the next 10K at the end of August.

Back at it

I had a hiatus of a week due to a visit from a family member. I was unable to get the gym on a daily basis, but I made up for it by walking and bike riding.

I was back at it yesterday by doing a workout DVD, The Biggest Loser. I did the warm-up, low intensity cardio, and cool-down stretch. I must say, it was a good workout! I was definitely sweating at the end of it. I think I'll continue to do it in the evening.

I made it to the gym this morning. I did a chest and biceps strength workout. Since I am going to do cardio in the evening, I will focus on four different strength training exercises at the gym.

Biceps & chest
Triceps & shoulders
Legs
Back

I can't go to the gym tomorrow, but I will make it there Wed-Fri.

From walking to running

I started out walking this morning, but ended up running. The skies were overcast and the temperature a cool 68 degrees (that is cool for July in GA). I had a bottle of water and proceeded to get my walk on. I made it to my halfway point and turned around for the walk back and a few minutes later I felt a drop. I thought it was a fluke or maybe from my water bottle. I kept walking. Another drop. Then I focused and I could see scatter drops coming down. Damnit! It is about to rain. So, I started running. :)

I guess that is the good thing about being in the shape I am in. I can do that and not feel worn out about it. I ran a little ways and the rain drops stopped. I slowed to a walk (brisk, of course). About 2 block from my home the rain started again. I sprinted toward the finish! All in all, I worked up a good sweat between my walking & running. Not too bad. Not too bad, at all.

Under 30

I ran 3 miles on the indoor track this morning in under 30 minutes. I guess in controlled conditions, such as a flat, indoor track, I can make good time. When you throw in hills, heat, and a few thousand other people, I slow down. Interesting...

In other news, yes, my mid-section is still extremely sore. It hurts to sneeze! Ugh!

So very sore

My mid-section that is! It hurts to move in any direction. Ugh! I know, I know, I brought it on myself. I still feel the need to complain. Hmpf.

Anywho, I did a lower body workout today. Legs baby! I also did 12 minutes on the treadmill.

Quite sore

Oh my goodness! I have been pretty slack on the abdominal muscles and yesterdays foray back into that region is causing pain today. Wow! I did 24 incline sit-ups and 60 crunches of varying types. I think my entire abdominal region is sore now.

No pain, no gain is the term right? Well, I have the pain today.

This morning I did 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, the hill profile. Then I decided to run the stairs in the natatorium. I don't know what inspired me to do that, but that is what I did nonetheless. It took my 3 minutes to go down and up, down and up, down and up, I don't know how many times. Once I got to the end I walked back to the start, drank some water and did it again. I was much slower the 2nd go around - it took me 4 minutes. I could feel myself getting slower about halfway through the 2nd time around.

I'm sure my legs will feel it tomorrow. But it was a good workout.

Back to the gym

I made my way back to the gym this AM. I really like the weight training regimen I've been following while training for the 10K so I decided to continue with that one for now. I increased my weight and I added 12 minutes on the treadmill to the workout. I worked up a good sweat today!

3 mile walk

As I stated, I am going to continue with my training and try to run at least twice a week. I didn't do any form of exercise on Thursday or Friday, but I was back at it today.

I completed a 3 mile walk in just under 50 minutes. It was a rolling course around the local mall. Instead of sitting and waiting for my car to be serviced this morning at Sears, I decided to walk around the perimeter of the mall - the outside perimeter. I walked along the road that circled the mall 3 times. I clocked it after my car was done and 1 time around is 1 mile. I got my heart rate up and I'm back at it!

Next steps

I'm doing the Marine Corp Marathon 10K at the end of October. I'll begin intensive training for that one at the end of August. In the meantime, I'm going to continue to weight train and run at least twice a week (3 miles at a time). I want to keep up my endurance and eventually work toward running an entire 10K (hills included!).

10K: post race

It was a great feeling yesterday to complete the Peachtree Road Race!

The crowd was awesome! They were playing music, handing out water, food, and beer (yes, beer very early in the morning!). It was just a great experience.

My main concern was the hills. No, I didn't run the hills. I started out running them, but quickly switched to walking. I think by doing so I was able to conserve my energy for running the less hilly portions.

I finished the route in a 1 hour 14 minutes, which I think is pretty good for a first 10K. I got that elusive Peachtree Road Race T-shirt:

Yay for me!

For more images of the Peachtree check out my photo site here.

I'm doing another one in the fall.

10K - done!

I completed the 10K this morning.

It was quite exhilarating. I'm glad I did it!

More details tomorrow. Must rest and watch the fireworks tonight.

Happy 4th!

10K: walking

I went for a walk this morning, it took me about 35 minutes to complete the route I took. I wanted for it to take at lest 30 minutes and that was accomplished. It was a brisk walk and I worked up a sweat. That was a good thing. Okay, 2 days of rest and then the race. I'll be back in this space after the race...
