10K: Last run day

I did a 2 mile run this morning. I won't run again until race day, Wednesday. I took it easy and didn't push myself. It took me about 20 minutes. Not too bad.

10K: rest day

Although I should have run 2 miles this morning, per my schedule I posted earlier this week, my body knows that Friday is generally a rest day. I just couldn't pull myself out of bed this morning to go for a run. I'll do the 2 mile run tomorrow.

10K: less than a week away

Wednesday will be here in no time. I'm still staying with it. Today I did my stretch & strengthen routine. Nothing really new to report. I am quite sore from the long run yesterday. Otherwise, all is well.

10K: countdown to race day

Whew! I did a 5 mile run today. Oh boy, I was worn out at the end. I had 5 hills of varying lengths and grades. I ran all, but one and that one I only walked a small portion of it. I'm determined to run as much of the race next week as I can. Today's run took me 55 minutes.

My goal is to complete the 10K in under 1 hour 10 minutes. We'll see.

10K: 8 days to go

Yesterday I posted the training schedule I intended to follow until race day. Well, that has already been adjusted. I was entirely too sore this morning to accomplish a 5 mile run. I decided to do cardio instead. I did 20 minutes on the bike and 30 minutes on the treadmill.

10K: training update

I did my normal stretch & strengthen this morning. Now, I'm looking at the training guide trying to determine what I'm going to do over the next 8 days. I think I'm going to adjust the days based on going backwards from race day since I'm so close to the day. I really want to get in one more long run and incorporate some hills. I'll do that tomorrow.

Tuesday - 5 mile run
Wednesday - stretch & strengthen
Thursday - 3 mile run
Friday - rest
Saturday - 30 min cross
Sunday - 2 mile run
Monday - rest
Tuesday - rest
Friday - 10K race

10K: Week 5, Day 7 and other updates

Okay, so I didn't workout on Thursday and Friday was a rest day. I did, however, crosstrain yesterday and ran this morning.

I walked 4.5 miles yesterday morning in about 1 hour, 10 minutes. I ran that same route this morning in 48 minutes.

Race day is in 10 days. Oh my!

10K: Week 5, Day 3

Gotta love those cross-training days. Of course, that is, when I have the ability to do something I don't mind doing. Since I'm in a hotel, I'm at the mercy of the equipment that is available. I perused the room and found a treadmill, elliptical machine, and a stationery bike.

I decided to walk on the treadmill. Unbeknownst to me, the treadmill wasn't functioning properly. Walking on it made one feel like you were walking on a trampoline. Plus, you couldn't program any of functions. It was waaaaayyy to fancy for my liking. Therefore, I moved to the elliptical machine. I'm not really a fan of that particular machine. I really prefer the stairmaster, but that wasn't available. I did it for 10 minutes and decided that was enough. I moved the bike for the remaining 30 minutes of my workout. I pushed and I punched, but to no avail nothing on the screen of the bike worked. Sadly, I went back to the elliptical. I withstood it for another 15 minutes and then I was done.

Overall, I put in 25 minutes of cardio (I was supposed to do 40) and I stretched. I thought that was good considering I really didn't want to get up and do anything this AM.

10K: Week 5, Day 2

I completed a 3 mile run this AM. It was tough, but I pulled it out and ran the entire distance (despite the hills). Hills are my downfall. :( I was really proud of myself this morning as the last time I ran was approximately 11 days ago. My time this morning was 32:59.

10K: uh-oh, more travel

So I will make it the gym tomorrow for a 3 mile run (outside if it is not raining). I'm worried, however, about Wednesday and Thursday. I'm headed out of town again for work and I have a hard time exercising when I travel. I am quite conscious of what/how I eat when I travel, but exercise is another thing. I'm taking my workout clothes, so I am going to be optimistic. We'll see...

10K: I don't even know where to start

Basically, I missed an entire week of training. The 10K is 2-1/2 weeks away and, realistically, I am in week 5 of my training. I think I will follow the schedule for week 5 this week, week 6 next week and re-evaluate whether I will actually run in the 10K on July 4th.

I really need to ride the course so I can determine whether the hills are going to do me in. That is the one thing I am really worried about. If the course was mostly flat I would do it without question. Unfortunately, I've been told there are several hills that are quite challenging. Maybe I'll ride down there this weekend.

I did go to the gym this morning and did strength training. It was a struggle though. A HUGE struggle to get out of the bed this morning. I just wasn't feeling it. I got to the gym 15 minutes later than normal. I didn't slack off though. I did my entire workout.

10K: bad blogger and bad trainer

I have been a really bad blogger and bad 10K trainer over the last week. eek! I haven't blogged since last Monday and I haven't worked out since last Wednesday. Oh my!

Life has just been too busy for blogging. I must do better. This helps keep me accountable.

I said in my last post that the weekend was going to be a challenge due to my travel schedule. Who knew the week was going to be a challenge due to that travel. I ended up working late many days last week and going to work early. Honestly, there just wasn't enough time each day last week to get all that I needed to do done. I was totally swamped.

I'm not sure if I am going to be able to do this 10K. I just don't think I'm going to be ready. While I can run 4 miles with no problem, I just don't think I can run the hills that may be apart of this route. Again, this week is a challenge because I'm still traveling. I got in really late last night and had an early call this morning. I have dinner plans with the folks that I'm presenting with so there is no chance of a workout tonight.

Ugh! I've got to do something about this.

10K: Week 5, Day 1

Okay, I hope to follow the routine, for the most part, this week. The weekend will be difficult due to travel plans. Anywho, I did make it to the gym this AM. I weight trained, did a series of crunches, and stretched throughout. I should be good and sore tomorrow.

10K: Week 4, Day 7

Whew! Today's run was hard! I mean HARD! I was all psyched to tackle this 4 mile run first thing this morning then I realized it was raining. Therefore, I went back to bed. The rain let up eventually, but not in time for me to run this AM. So I went on ahead with my day and decided I would move the run to the evening.

When I got back to town this evening I was a bit wishy-washy about doing the run, but I knew I needed to. So I changed and headed out. I mapped a route that was exactly 4 miles and included several hills. Big mistake. :( I couldn't do those hills. They were too much for me. I ended up walking a few of them and altering my route a bit. I mapped the route when I got home and I ended up doing 3.5 miles. I think I could do 4 miles if it was all flat. It is the hills that get me. Must work on that.

10K: Week 4, Day 6

I did a 40 minute interval workout on the stairmster this morning. I followed up with 10 minutes on the recumbent bike on the hill profile. I think I had a sufficient workout this morning.

I want to run outside tomorrow, but I'm not sure if that will happen. It is raining now, much needed rain, and I'm not sure if it is supposed to continue tomorrow or not. We'll see. I would really like to do a few hills. I can't believe I'm saying that out loud.

10K: Week 4, Day 5

Gotta love Fridays! msn smileys It is always a rest day!
