10K#2: training update

Yes, I am still training for the 10K despite not updating the blog. I haven't really been following the training guide that I followed before. I took a look at it the first week intending to follow it, but I didn't print it out. I think I then internalized what I needed to do each day and that's what I've been doing. The guide is fairly simple with a steady increase in mileage each week, weight training one day a week, a cardio workout another day, a walk one day, and a rest day. That's what I've been doing with a gradual increase in mileage each week.

I'm moving soon and I wonder how that will affect my training. I won't have a gym to weight train at for a few weeks or maybe not at all prior to the next race. If I don't join a gym within 2 weeks of being in my new location (which is highly unlikely) I'll have to resort to running each day, I think. That shouldn't really be a problem.

10k#2: Week 1, Day 4

This morning I went for a 2 mile run and I stretched. I followed a 2 mile route on campus that was flat and hilly. I took me right at 20 minutes. Not too bad!

10K#2: Week 1 Day 3

Okay, I'm back into training for a 10K. It will take place on October 28th in Washington D.C. Acutally, I'm a few days behind in that I didn't really start the training until today. I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster, 3 sets of 20 lunges with 10 lb weights, and I stretched.

Though I haven't really been running on a regular basis, maybe twice a week, I have been working out continuously since the last 10K. Now to really get back into the swing of things.

Still here

Hmmm...it has been a few weeks since I last posted here. Alas, I am still working out just not updating this space. Well, that will surely change as I am about to start training for my next 10K. I, along with 2 friends, are running in the Marine Corps Marathon 10K at the end of October.

Since I follow an 8-week training guide, I must begin my training in earnest next week.

Morning & Night

Well, yesterday I worked out on opposite ends of the day. I was in the gym at 6 am to do a back workout then I did a 30 minute cardio workout starting at 8:45 pm. It wasn't that bad, though I had to talk myself into it. For some reason, I think I should just chill & relax at the time of the evening. I should be winding down from day ~ not getting my heart rate up! We'll see how long that lasts. I'm going to try it again tonight.

Twice a day

I did 2 workouts yesterday, biceps & chest in the AM and cardio DVD in the PM. I ate healthy and drank a ton of water. I was sick of going to bathroom every 30 minutes, it seemed. I know, however, that is what I have to do.

I was talking to a friend on the phone last night and he suggested I move my cardio to later in the evening. I would benefit more by not eating after I do cardio. We'll see. I don't have a desire to workout that late in the evening. I'll give it a shot though.

This morning I did a back workout at the gym with weights.

Back at it

After a week of not working out, I am back at it. I did The Biggest Loser DVD this morning. Whew! It was just as good of a workout as I remember. I do really good except for the lunges. I just can't seem to keep up with that exercise and have to take a break during that part. My knees really pop and crack during that exercise. That might be an exercise that I need not do. I can do regular lunges, meaning those where you step forward in a slow, controlled motion. But, the ones on this video require doing a lunge with the leg going back at a pretty high pace. Those don't work for me. At all. I need to come up with an alternative before I injure myself.

Tomorrow I head back to the gym. I'll do weights in the AM and the DVD in the evening.

A slacker

I'm still here, but I'm not working out this week. My gym is closed and I decided to take a breather. Not that I couldn't go for a walk or do my Biggest Loser workout DVD. I just don't feel it right now. I am still eating correctly and drinking a boatload of water. I just need a break from getting up at 5:30 AM. I'll be back at it next week and I may go for a run on Saturday morning. Of course, it will be very early as the heat here is off the charts!

Still working it out

I'm still handling my workouts, the two-a-days. I'm doing strictly weights in the AM and the cardio in the evening. Last week I lost a 1.7 pounds. This week I maintained. Of course, I weighed in earlier than normal so I really could have lost and it just didn't show when I weighed in. We'll see come next week if there is dramatic difference.

Soreness is back

Taking the weekend off allowed the soreness to go away. At least it did by Sunday, but it is back with a vengeance. I did my 2-a-day workout yesterday and I am already feeling it. :) I did my DVD last night and lifted weights this AM. I'm sure in my posting tomorrow I will be even more sore. But what they hey, such is life and apart of leading a healthy and fit lifestyle.

Weekend break

I took the weekend off from working out. I really needed it! I was extremely sore on Saturday and I could barely move to get out of bed. I couldn't get it together on Sunday either, but I was back in the gym this AM. This morning I did chest and biceps. I'll do my DVD tonight and get back into my two-a-days routine this week.

Two-a-days

I've been doing two-a-day workouts and boy am I feeling it. I do weights in the AM and The Biggest Loser DVD in the evening. I am sore all over!

This morning I did exclusively legs. I know that come Saturday, it will be difficult to stand and sit-down. I say that because of the workout I did this AM and knowing I'm going to do that DVD tonight. Oh yeah, it will not be pretty on Saturday. But, I must forge ahead!

Back workout

I worked my lateral muscles and lower back this AM. I am sore all over the place due to the Biggest Loser DVD and my chest and biceps workout Monday morning. I'm sure I will be even more sore tomorrow.

Evening workout

I didn't workout this AM. I will do The Biggest Loser DVD tonight. I find that although it is a mere 25 minute workout, it is a good workout! I am sweating, tired, and fighting to get through it! If I continue to do that in the evening along with the gym in the AM, I'll be able to drop these last 10 pounds that I want to lose. Plus, it will help me when I begin training for the next 10K at the end of August.

Back at it

I had a hiatus of a week due to a visit from a family member. I was unable to get the gym on a daily basis, but I made up for it by walking and bike riding.

I was back at it yesterday by doing a workout DVD, The Biggest Loser. I did the warm-up, low intensity cardio, and cool-down stretch. I must say, it was a good workout! I was definitely sweating at the end of it. I think I'll continue to do it in the evening.

I made it to the gym this morning. I did a chest and biceps strength workout. Since I am going to do cardio in the evening, I will focus on four different strength training exercises at the gym.

Biceps & chest
Triceps & shoulders
Legs
Back

I can't go to the gym tomorrow, but I will make it there Wed-Fri.

From walking to running

I started out walking this morning, but ended up running. The skies were overcast and the temperature a cool 68 degrees (that is cool for July in GA). I had a bottle of water and proceeded to get my walk on. I made it to my halfway point and turned around for the walk back and a few minutes later I felt a drop. I thought it was a fluke or maybe from my water bottle. I kept walking. Another drop. Then I focused and I could see scatter drops coming down. Damnit! It is about to rain. So, I started running. :)

I guess that is the good thing about being in the shape I am in. I can do that and not feel worn out about it. I ran a little ways and the rain drops stopped. I slowed to a walk (brisk, of course). About 2 block from my home the rain started again. I sprinted toward the finish! All in all, I worked up a good sweat between my walking & running. Not too bad. Not too bad, at all.

Under 30

I ran 3 miles on the indoor track this morning in under 30 minutes. I guess in controlled conditions, such as a flat, indoor track, I can make good time. When you throw in hills, heat, and a few thousand other people, I slow down. Interesting...

In other news, yes, my mid-section is still extremely sore. It hurts to sneeze! Ugh!

So very sore

My mid-section that is! It hurts to move in any direction. Ugh! I know, I know, I brought it on myself. I still feel the need to complain. Hmpf.

Anywho, I did a lower body workout today. Legs baby! I also did 12 minutes on the treadmill.

Quite sore

Oh my goodness! I have been pretty slack on the abdominal muscles and yesterdays foray back into that region is causing pain today. Wow! I did 24 incline sit-ups and 60 crunches of varying types. I think my entire abdominal region is sore now.

No pain, no gain is the term right? Well, I have the pain today.

This morning I did 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, the hill profile. Then I decided to run the stairs in the natatorium. I don't know what inspired me to do that, but that is what I did nonetheless. It took my 3 minutes to go down and up, down and up, down and up, I don't know how many times. Once I got to the end I walked back to the start, drank some water and did it again. I was much slower the 2nd go around - it took me 4 minutes. I could feel myself getting slower about halfway through the 2nd time around.

I'm sure my legs will feel it tomorrow. But it was a good workout.

Back to the gym

I made my way back to the gym this AM. I really like the weight training regimen I've been following while training for the 10K so I decided to continue with that one for now. I increased my weight and I added 12 minutes on the treadmill to the workout. I worked up a good sweat today!
